Sacraments

Students who have been baptized in the Catholic Church and have received their First Communion may receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist during Mass.

Students in grades 3-8 have the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at several penance services scheduled throughout the school year.

Within our parish, the second grade has been established as the normal time of preparation for the Sacraments of Reconciliation (Penance) and Eucharist (Communion). Children must be baptized Catholic and attend parish religious education and sacramental preparation classes.

There is a preparation period for children wishing to receive the Sacrament(s). The child must be enrolled and attending religious education prior to the celebration of the Sacrament. The preparation for the Sacrament(s) is separate from the regular religious education received in Catholic School or parish Religious Education Program. Transfer students must have a letter from their previous parish stating that they regularly attended classes.

At the time of registration for Sacramental preparation, eligible families will receive a detailed description of expectations and a schedule of required parent meetings and children’s Saturday sessions.

The original Certificate of Baptism must be presented to the parish director of Sacramental preparation. The original certificate will be returned.

The child must be seven years of age before September 1st.

During the eighth grade year, Catholic students may begin a two-year preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. Classroom instruction at St. Paul's School lays the foundation for parish Sacramental preparation. It focuses on the gifts of the Holy Spirit, includes discussions centering on morality and reinforces the principles of our Catholic faith. The preparation for Confirmation also includes attendance at parish Sacramental classes.
