St. Paul's Students Honor Mary with Living Rosary

By Lynette

The St. Paul’s school body gathered together to pray a living rosary in honor of Mary and October, the Month of the Rosary.

“We plan to continue praying the living rosary as a school family at least once a month,” said Mrs. Revord, religion coordinator.  “The goal is to get students to become familiar with the Mother of God and Jesus’ life story and realize that the rosary is more than just a whole bunch of Hail Mary’s and rote prayers.  We really like to participate in prayer together and to be able to do this in an interactive way.”

A living rosary is a great way to include the student body in praying the rosary. It requires full participation in prayer.  Students “become” the living beads, reciting the prayer for each bead.  The rosary begins with students standing, but then as they lead the prayer, they sit down. This is a great way to help younger students follow the prayer.  Students also share in the recitation of the Apostles’ Creed, the mysteries, and the Hail, Holy Queen prayer.

St. Paul students are encouraged to focus on the mysteries and reflect on their meaning.  For instance, you may ask yourself while praying the Joyous Mysteries:  How would you react if you were being chosen to be the mother of God; or, are you living a holy enough life for God to even consider you?
