St. Paul's Students Win Awards for Martin Luther King Essays

Saint Paul’s Catholic School participated in the 8th annual Dr. Martin Luther King essay contest sponsored by Lake Sumter Community College.  The essay was entitled, “Celebrate the Man… Live the Message.”    The award ceremony was held in the Everett A. Kelly Convocation Center of Lake Sumter Community College on Friday, January 13.   Awards for the winning essays were presented by Dr. Charles Mojock, President, Lake Sumter Community College,   Dr. Barbara Howard, Vice President of Academic Affairs, Lake Sumter Community College, Dr. Susan Moxley, Superintendent of Schools, Lake County Schools and Mrs. Rosanne Brandeburg, Chairperson, Lake County School Board.

     There were over 650 essays submitted from middle and high schools in Lake and Sumter County.  Out of the five awards for each category, Saint Paul’s students won four of the fifteen possible awards from both counties.  A First Place Award was presented to Logan Waddell, a Second Place Award to Monica Carrillo and Third Place Awards were presented to Lynette Fisher and Chase DeCarlo.  Award winners receive a trophy and cash prizes.  All Saint Paul’s participants received a Certificate of Participation for their entries.
